Adventure Awaits

Local Hikes & Adventures

Sleepy Hollow is in the perfect location for epic adventures into Rocky Mountain National Park and Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. We’re located at the southern edge of the Park, near trailheads that are more off the beaten path those around Estes Park. We’re also surrounded by other local trails that are outside the park and equally magnificent.

  • A mountainous landscape with snow-capped peaks, green pine trees, and rocky terrain under a blue sky with a few clouds.

    St. Vrain Mountain Trailhead

St. Vrain Mountain Trailhead is just up the road, 3 miles from Sleepy Hollow. One of our personal favorites, this scenic trail starts in Indian Peaks Wilderness and goes into the southernmost part of Rocky Mountain National Park. The views from the top are among the best in the area.

  • A rushing mountain stream passing over rocks and logs in a dense forest with tall evergreen trees.

    Wild Basin Trailhead

Wild Basin Trailhead is one of the more remote trailheads in Rocky Mountain National Park, but it is just 6 miles from Sleep Hollow. From here, the trail to Bluebird Lake and Ouzel Lake follows the North St. Vrain Creek, passing Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls along the way.

  • Mountain landscape with rocky terrain, sparse green vegetation, and a partly cloudy blue sky.

    Longs Peak Trailhead

At 14,259’ Longs Peak is Colorado's northernmost fourteener. Located in Rocky Mountain National Park just 9 miles from Sleepy Hollow, access to Longs Peak via the Keyhole Route is a technical climb. Other trails accessible from this trailhead include Chasm Lake and Moore Park.

  • A flowing mountain stream surrounded by rocks and trees with green and yellow leaves in a forest during spring.

    Middle St. Vrain Trailhead

Located in Camp Dick Campground 8 miles from Sleepy Hollow, this scenic trail is known for its stunning views and access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness. In winter, you will park closer to Peaceful Valley to enjoy snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and winter biking (yes, that’s a thing!).

Winter Excursions

A person in winter gear hiking through a snow-covered forest with tall, snow-laden pine trees.

Ferncliff becomes a quiet alpine playground in winter. Head to Eldora Mountain Ski Resort for downhill runs and terrain parks without the I-70 crowds, or slip into the surrounding forests for serene cross-country skiing along groomed trails that wind through spruce and aspen. Snowshoeing is a local favorite too, offering peaceful routes around Brainard Lake and the hidden meadows above Allenspark.

Whether you want crisp adventure or gentle exploration, Ferncliff gives you effortless access to some of Colorado’s most beautiful winter terrain, all from the comfort of your mountain retreat at Sleepy Hollow.
